[Seoul=Newsis] Reporter Bae Yo-han = ISU Specialty Chemical announced on the 20th that the company will supply diluents to waste battery recycling companies and start related businesses in earnest.
Recently, as the battery market has grown rapidly, interest in recycling waste batteries is increasing significantly. Recycling waste batteries is considered an important means of easing the dependence of critical minerals on foreign countries. Major domestic companies, such as SungEel HiTech, POSCO, EcoPro are also promoting or reviewing the construction of waste battery recycling plants.

The waste battery recycling process requires a hydrometallurgy extraction process that extracts and recovers critical minerals used in battery manufacturing, such as cobalt, nickel, lithium, manganese, and copper, etc. In this process, in addition to the ‘extractant’ that extracts minerals, a ‘de-aromatic solvent’ is also used as a necessity as a solvent and diluent.
ISU Specialty Chemical is a company that has been producing de-aromatic solvent(D-Sol), an industrial solvent, for about 30 years. The company has supplied D-Sol to various industries, including metalworking fluids, cleaning solvents, and inks.

ISU Specialty Chemical launched a new brand called 'ISU REX 110' to preoccupy the waste battery recycling diluent market. In addition, the company signed a business agreement with EA PHOS, a domestic extractant manufacturer, in October of last year and is promoting the sale of extractant and diluent packages
Following the supply to the existing plants of S Company, the largest domestic waste battery recycling company, ISU Specialty Chemical has completed the large-scale supply of diluent of over 1,000 tons to new plants scheduled to operate in June. The company is also in the process of technical consultations with major domestic and foreign waste battery recycling companies for the supply of diluent.

Lyu Seung-ho, CEO of ISU Specialty Chemical Company, said, "A number of companies are expanding their businesses related to waste batteries to prepare for the U.S. Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) and the EU Critical Raw Materials Act (CRMA)," and added, "Based on this large-scale supply, we will expand our market dominance in the waste battery recycling diluent market in the future."
